As of August 2017, Master Perry has officially retired from teaching. Master Doyle Perry has been training in the martial arts for over 40 years. He holds Master Rank in Kung Fu , 6th Degree Master rank in Kajukenbo and 4th Degree Black Belt rank in Judo. He is a nationally certified Master Instructor who has been teaching martial arts for over 20 years.
In 2007, Master Perry was honored to be named Kung Fu Master of the Year by the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
He began his training with boxing, wrestling and hand-to-hand combat at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. After graduating from West Point in 1971, he spent six years on active duty as a U.S. Army officer, leaving the army as an Infantry Captain. While on active duty, he honed his personal defense skills and taught hand-to-hand combat techniques. In addition, while stationed in Berlin, Germany, he pursued his MBA through the Boston University overseas program, graduating in 1979.
As he continued his wide and varied martial arts training, Master Perry held executive positions with various corporations, including Honeywell and Memorex-Telex. He has been a trainer and teacher in all his positions, including teaching self-defense and personal growth classes to corporate executives, police officers, and men, women and young people from all walks of life.
Teaching martial arts and life-skills to all ages are passions for Master Perry. His greatest satisfactions come from helping students grow. He believes that helping people improve their career prospects, their grades in school, their personal relationships, their confidence and their self-image is a wonderful way to invest a life.
A crucial aspect of being an effective teacher is that the teacher continues to be a student. Master Perry has trained with such renowned teachers as: Grandmaster PanQingFu (Kung Fu), Grandmaster Philip Porter (Judo/Jujitsu), Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang (Chen Tai Chi), Grandmaster Li Deyin (Tai Chi Sword), Master Joon Chi (Judo), Master Doria Cook-Nelson (Yang Tai Chi Chuan), Master Jerry Cook (Kung Fu Forms, Wu Tai Chi Chuan and weapons), Master Betty Dong (Chen Tai Chi Chuan), Master Frank Sasso (Karate sparring) and more. His training continues.
Two more of Master Perry's specialties are Stranger Danger for children and Women's Self-Defense. He has taught Stranger Danger seminars in many elementary schools. To supplement his seminars, he wrote the book, Stranger Danger: The Young Person's Guide to Personal Safety and Dealing with People You Don't Know. He has distributed thousands of free copies to families of children who visit the school. Many hundreds of women have benefited from his down-to-earth women's Self-Defense Seminars, with techniques developed over many years for simplicity and effectiveness.
